Soldier Funeral

In this performance, I lie in a coffin wearing military uniform. A staged funeral procession brings the vulnerability of the soldier’s body into the city’s public space.

Performance in public space

19 July 2014, Odesa

I performed outside the Musical Comedy Theatre during the closing ceremony of the Odesa International Film Festival. Yevhen Dovlatov and Vira Shevchenko also took part in the action.

A public ritual

Lying in a coffin in military uniform, I became part of a staged funeral procession. The action drew attention to Ukrainian military deaths and the inadequate training and support given to soldiers sent to eastern Ukraine. Police detained the participants; we were subsequently released.
